What's new in iOS 16
Many of the new features that will arrive with iOS 16 are focused on the camera roll. Today we are going to talk about the most interesting ones that will come to manage and have greater privacy control in our captures and videos.
Photos has quite a few new features, including an option to get rid of duplicates and the ability to lock hidden folders so you can save sensitive photos and videos. Many of these features are also available in iPadOS 16 .
iOS 16 Improvements to iPhone Camera Roll:
Native iOS Photo App
Hidden and recently deleted albums locked:
In the iOS 16 Photos app, both the “Hidden” and “Recently Deleted” albums can be locked with Face ID or Touch ID. This way they cannot be opened without biometric authentication or an access code.
This protects photos you've deleted or marked as hidden. Someone who has access to your unlocked phone will not be able to open these albums without authentication.

Duplicate photo detection function:
In iOS 16, your iPhone will automatically detect any duplicate images you have in your Camera Roll. Duplicate photos will appear in a new album called “Duplicates” and give you the chance to merge them to save space and reduce clutter.
The Duplicates album only appears if you have duplicate photos in your library and the merging feature is smart. It will keep as much detail and metadata as possible, creating the best image possible.
Copy and paste edits:
If you have multiple photos that you want to edit in the same way, or if you've made changes to one photo that you want to replicate in another, you can use the new copy and paste editing tools in iOS 16 .
To use the option, make edits to an image, then tap the three dots icon in the top right corner. From there, hit “Copy Edits” to copy everything that was done to the image. Open another photo, tap on the three-dot icon again and choose the “Paste Edits” function to get the exact same settings.
Undo and redo edits:
To streamline photo editing, iOS 16 adds simple undo and redo buttons, a feature missing from earlier versions of iOS.With the Undo and Redo buttons, you can remove edits you've made to photos one by one instead of having to cancel all edits by reverting an entire image.
The Undo and Redo buttons will be seen in the upper right corner of the image editing interface and will be displayed once we have edited a photo. You can undo and/or redo each change individually, making it quicker to go back and fix a mistake.
Possibility of sorting in the album "People and places":
Apple adds an option to sort the "People & Places" album. By touching the two arrows key that appears at the top right of the screen, we can change the classification from "Custom Order" to "Name".
iCloud Shared Photo Library:
iOS 16 adds an iCloud Shared Photo Library that's basically identical to the standard iCloud Photo Library, but can be shared with up to five other people.
Crop subject from background:
Although not strictly a function of the Photos app, cropping the subject from the background is one of the funniest random additions to iOS 16. You can use it to crop the subject of any image or photo.
To use it, in the Photos app, open an image, then long-press the main subject of the photo until it lights up. From there, you can either drag it or choose the “copy” option to copy it to the clipboard. You can paste it on another photo or send it as a sticker in the Messages app .
Toggle featured content:
iOS 16 adds a toggle that lets you prevent Featured Photos and Memories from appearing in For You , Photo Search , and Widgets .
The switch can be found in the Photos section of iOS settings.
Without a doubt, a large number of new features that will make us get much more out of one of the native applications that we all use the most, the photo roll of our iPhone.
