How to see the international space station with the naked eye

Years ago we told you about an application that alerts us when the ISS passes near our location so we can see it live. This app is still operational and works very well but today we like it better since it has a lot more information.

This application is none other than the official NASA app. In it we can find all kinds of information about everything that this space agency discovers, a visit is wonderful. For people like me, who like this theme, it's one of the iPhone apps that you should have installed on your device.

How to configure the app to see the international space station with the naked eye:

But since it is an application that is in English and what we are interested in is configuring it to notify us when the space station passes over our heads, we are going to explain how to do it.

First of all we open the app, from which we leave you the download link at the end of the article, and click on the 3 lines that appear in the upper right part of the screen.

Access to the NASA app menu

In the settings we activate the option “Configure Notifications for ISS Sightings” .

Activate that option to configure notifications

When we activate it, a menu will appear where we must configure the time in advance with which the app will notify us that the ISS will pass near our location.

Choose the time in advance with which you want me to notify you

Once the time has been chosen, we will already have the application configured to notify us. It is very important to turn on notifications for this app. If we do not, it will not notify us.

Where is the ISS now?:

Now, if what you want to know is where the ISS (international space station) is going right now, we go to the main screen of the application and select "Missions, Schedule and Sighting" .

Access all the information about the international space station

Now click on “International Space Station”. From the screen that appears, we select the "Sightings" option that appears in the lower menu of the screen and from there we can access two options that we explain below:

  • Sky View: It allows us to use the phone to focus on the sky and, with an arrow, the app indicates where the ISS passes through.

Ideal to know where to look to see the international space station

  • World View: We can see a wonderful 3D world map with the trajectory and current location of the International Space Station (ISS).

3D view of the ISS tour

When it warns you that the ISS is going to pass near your location, the ideal is to use the Sky View option so that it shows you where it is.

Without a doubt, a great app that becomes a very good tool to know how to see the Space Station live, from wherever you are.
