From what we are seeing these days, Signal downloads may have been a mere anecdote to notify Facebook that users can bring down any app or platform, whatever it is, as soon as they touch something which is as much ours as our privacy.
It seems that the waters are calming down again on WhatsApp and it seems that, little by little, everything is returning to "normal".
