Activate low data mode on iPhone
The operating system of our iPhone brings a setting that you will be interested in activating, if you are a person who has a data rate with few gigabytes to be able to consume. In this new entry of our iOS tutorials, we are going to explain everything about this option.
Every day the consumption of data that we do on our devices is greater. More megabytes are needed to be able to send photos, each time of higher quality, download updates, each time heavier, to be able to play online with our friends, to make video calls, upload content to apps like Instagram, Twitter. That is why at Apple they think of everything and have enabled the reduced data mode, especially and as we have said before, indicated for people who have somewhat short data rates.
But surely you've ever wondered what activating this setting does. We will explain it to you below.
What is low data mode used for on iOS?:
First of all, we are going to refer you to one of our tutorials so that you know where this option is. Click below to learn how to activate iPhone reduced data mode.
Low data mode disabled on iOS
When low data mode is turned on, apps reduce data consumption in different ways:
- Applications can stop using your mobile rate data when you are not using them directly.
- The update in flat background is disabled if you have it enabled.
- Lowers the quality of streaming content, such as video calls.
- Automatic downloads and backups are disabled regardless of how you have them configured on your device.
- Some services, like iCloud Photos , pause updates. This means that they will stop uploading content to the cloud.
Native iOS apps and services that adapt to this iOS tweak:
In the App Store autoplay of videos and automatic updates and downloads are disabled.
In the Music app, automatic downloads and high-quality streaming playback are also disabled.
Podcasts restricts the frequency of feed updates. The episodes stop downloading with your data rate and are only downloaded when you are connected to a Wi-Fi network .
In the News app, which we still cannot enjoy in our country, the preloading of articles is deactivated.
In iCloud, as we have advanced before, updates are paused. Automatic backups and updates to iCloud Photos are turned off.
When using FaceTime reduced data mode enabled causes the video bitrate to be optimized for lower bandwidth. This means that the quality of the uploaded image will be worse.
All this makes our iPhone, under 3G/4G coverage, consume less data than normal. This will lead to savings in the cost of megabytes in your mobile data rate.
Without further ado and hoping to have shed more light on this reduced data mode, we'll be waiting for you shortly with new news, tutorials, applications for your devices iOS.
