Phishing scams through calls
Surely you've ever had to deal with this type of scam. If you haven't, congratulations. We already have a few attacks of this type. In fact, we did an article explaining the latest phishing scam we received in the mail.
Phishing is a type of scam in which scammers impersonate another person or company. They do this in order to obtain information or financial benefit from the scammed party.
In recent weeks, phishing scams have appeared simulating a phone call from Apple. We tell you about what happened so you can be careful.
Phone scam simulating an Apple call:
Jody Westby, CEO of Global Cyber Riks, received a call advising her that the security of her Apple ID had been compromised. After informing her of this, she was asked to call a phone number in order to secure her information.
This seemed suspicious to Jody . That's why she called Apple support. From there she was informed that they had not contacted her and that, supposedly, it was a scam.

Phone scam impersonating Apple
The fake call from Apple, at 11:44 am, was grouped in the same recent calls list as the official call.The one at 11:47 was the official call from Apple The call listed at 11:51 am was the result of Westby accidentally returning the scammers call.
The magnificent forgery of the phone number of Apple, made Jody Westby contact Krebs (website about scams) to alert about this new type of phishing.
Brian Krebs, a security expert, to check what happened when calling the number that scammers asked them to call (866-277-7794) , called and on the other end was an automated system that pretended to be the security service Apple phone support After a minute on hold, a fake agent picked up the call. Krebs pretended not to know that it was a scam and when asked about the reason for the call, he stated that he had contacted them to solve an alleged security problem with his Apple ID. He was eventually put on hold and the call was dropped.

This scam occurred in the US but it may reach our country. A good tip to avoid them is to ignore the calls unless they come from one of our contacts. And if you accidentally pick them up, hang up as soon as the caller starts asking for personal information.
