While it is true that YouTube is a video playback platform, many users use it to listen to music.
When you're on your PC no problem, just leave YouTube open in a tab on your browser and keep working while listening to what's playing. But what about iOS?
ACTUALIZACIÓN: On April 6th they corrected the bug and it is not possible to perform this "trick". Anyway, here's a great app to listen to Youtube music in the background.
iOS 11.3 allows you to listen to YouTube with the locked screen
We always complain about bugs that appear in iOS but I'm sure there won't be any complaints about this one.
Although it is not in all countries, we all know YouTube Red .
It is the payment service of YouTube in which it allows, among other things, to watch the videos without and play them on the mobile with the locked screen.
In this way, YouTube tries to compete with music streaming services like Spotify or Apple Music . And besides, it's an incentive for you to switch to Red.
Well, this bug found violates this exclusive function of the platform.
How can you do it?
Really Youtube shouldn't be amused by this bug.
One of the features that most attract attention on mobile devices when switching to YouTube Red is precisely being able to play it with the screen locked.
So you are surely losing potential customers.
But let's get to the point, to be able to listen to YouTube with the screen locked you must:
- Open YouTube in Safari (not in the app).
- Press play on your selected video.
- Leave Safari in the background. That is, do not close the browser, simply press the Home button or slide your finger from bottom to top on iPhone X.
- Lock the iPhone and listen.
Done! You can now listen to YouTube with the locked screen.
If it doesn't play on its own, you can hit play in the notification center.
We tell you in more detail in this tutorial on how to listen to YouTube in the background.
Take advantage while you can
As we mentioned before YouTube Red is not available in Spain, and this bug allows us to listen to YouTube with the screen locked.
But YouTube won't like it at all so they may fix it quickly.
So while you can, enjoy.
