It seems that Snap Inc. has taken revenge on their own and copied Instagram. Soon, one of the most requested features by Snapchat users, will come true.
We will be able to mention contacts in our Snaps. This is great news because it will allow us to publicize, and meet, new and interesting accounts.
How to mention your contacts on Snapchat:
As we have said it will be like in Instagram Stories .
You will create a video or photo Snap, and you will add a text with the @ followed by the name of the user. We can see an example in the following image uploaded by actor Matthew Rappaport to his Snapchat account.
Mentions on Snapchat
Supposedly, as we see in the image, when mentioning someone the snapcode automatically appears. We also see, at the bottom of the screen, that there is a drop-down that will give us more information and options about the person mentioned. Interesting, right?.
Disadvantages of Snapchat Mentions:
But all that glitters is not gold:
- One downside to this new feature is that it appears that autocomplete is not enabled. This means that while you type the username, after the at sign, the username will not appear, as it happens in Stories. You must remember, faithfully, the username of your contact. If you don't remember it, you must exit the Snap to see its username and be able to capture it.
- Another con is that apparently the mentioned person will not receive a notification that he has been mentioned. This will mean that we do not know that they have talked about us, except when we see that new followers arrive. This will give away that someone has named us.
This function will soon be enabled for all users of the ghost's social network. At the moment only certain users are enjoying it while waiting to officially deploy it.
We are waiting for this update to arrive and, if possible, to fix the two major drawbacks it has.
