Last week the alarm went off that both applications were disappearing overnight from the App Store.
Social networks were filled with conjectures. Its creator Pavel Durov replied via Twitter that it was due to the detection of inappropriate content.
Why was Telegram removed from the App Store?
No one knew exactly why. We didn't know exactly what it was, although its developer explained that it was due to inappropriate content.
The mystery has been solved by 9to5Mac .
The problem was that the application's encryption service was being used for the distribution of child pornography.
A 9to5Mac reader sent an email in which Phil Schiller , Vice President of Product Apple. In this email he responded to a user why Telegram has been removed from the App Store.
Apple explains that it will not allow illegal content to be distributed through its applications under any circumstances. And much less one that puts children at risk, being the case of child pornography the most serious.
Los de Cupertino worked hand in hand with developer Pavel Durov . Their goal was to remove inappropriate content from the Apps, as well as ban users who had distributed the illegal content. Also, they wanted to put measures in place to prevent this from happening again.
This is the excerpt from the translated email
“The Telegram apps were removed from the App Store because we were alerted to illegal content, specifically child pornography, in the apps.
After verifying the existence of this content, we remove the apps from the store, alert the developer, and notify the proper authorities, including NCMEC (National Center for Missing & Exploited Children).
The App Store team worked closely with the developer to remove this illegal content from apps and ban users who posted this horrible content.
Only after it was verified that these measures had been taken and further controls were put in place to prevent this illegal activity from happening again, were these apps reinstated on the App Store.
We will never allow apps to distribute illegal content on the App Store and will promptly take action whenever we discover such activity.
Above all, we have zero tolerance for any activity that puts children at risk, child pornography being something that should never happen. It is evil, illegal and immoral.
I hope you appreciate the importance of our actions to not distribute apps on the App Store while they contain illegal content and to take prompt action against any and all apps involved in content that puts children at risk.”
It is great news for us that Apple and the developer of Telegram acted so quickly in such a serious situation.
Telegram and Telegram X return to the App Store
After a few hours both applications were available again in the App Store.
It should be said that they never stopped working. In other words, if you had them downloaded to your iPhone you could continue sending messages to your contacts.
The only thing that happened is that for a few hours you couldn't download either of the two Apps for the first time.
Once everything was fixed Apple returned the applications to their store. All users who want can now download Telegram and Telegram X.
