In November of last year we already echoed this news. We were talking about the possibility of streaming the videos that we would receive in this messaging app. We finally have this feature available.
Receiving a video and having to download it first to watch it later is over. As soon as we receive it, we can view it without waiting. It is downloaded as soon as it is received.
This will save us time and we won't have to wait to see them.
Back then, there was talk about videos not being downloaded on the iPhone, but they are. We have verified it.
THINGS TO TAKE INTO ACCOUNT WITH VIDEO STREAMING ON WHATSAPP:
Depending on whether you have configured the auto-download of the files, videos, etc. that you receive, the streaming will be presented to you in a different way.
Our configuration is as follows. This is because it allows us to save mobile data when using WhatsApp:
auto-download videos on Whatsapp
That is why when we are connected to a WIFI network, we immediately receive a video, we will have it available to watch. It will be downloaded as we see them. Given our configuration, if we are connected to a mobile data network, we will not have it available.
In the following image you can see how the video will be presented in both cases.
Streaming videos on WhatsApp
If we are using a mobile data network, and have the configuration as we have, when receiving a video the following message will appear:
Notice sign when receiving video on WhatsApp
After pressing OK, in the lower left corner of the video, the megabytes that the video occupies appear. When you press "PLAY" to watch it, it will begin to download it and, after downloading a bit of the video, it will begin to display. Clicking on the megabytes that it occupies, we will download it completely without having to see it.
Connected to a WIFI network this does not happen. The "PLAY" button appears directly and the video begins to play without any waiting. As we have said before, the video is saved in the memory of our phone, destined for Whatsapp, and it will do so while we are watching it, as they tell us in Wabetainfo.
What do you think? Given our auto-download configuration, it seems like a pain in the ass that every time we receive a video while connected to our mobile rate, the little sign that it could not be downloaded appears. We hope they will remove it shortly.
Greetings.
