APPLE has been attacked and its APP STORE has been filled with applications created with a tool that simulates the legal software they usually use app developers. This fraudulent tool is called XcodeGhost and it perfectly simulated the legal software Xcode. There is talk of between 50 and 400 applications that have been created with this illegal tool and, for the moment, we can rest easy since it seems that most of the affected applications seem to be aimed at the Chinese market. WebChat is a case in point.
The Chinese company Tencent, developer of WebChat, has announced on its official blog that the problem is now solved, reports the EFE news agency.
This does not mean that we are completely calm as it may be that in the next few hours we will have surprises, as we can deduce in a tweet recently published by the Civil Guard :
According to what we have been informed, the malware that is installed on the devices, through the infected apps, was programmed to collect data such as passwords and access data to online banking, transmit it and allow remote control.
WHY WERE INFECTED APPLICATIONS DEVELOPED WITH THIS ILLEGAL SOFTWARE?
It turns out that given how much it occupies Xcode, 3, 59Gb , and how long it took to download it from the official site of Apple, these developers downloaded it from BAIDU, a Chinese application search and download tool. This allowed them to download the software faster, without knowing that what they were actually downloading was the software XcodeGhost.
A spokeswoman for Apple stated: “We have removed apps from the App Store that we know were created with this fake software. We are now working with the developers to make sure they are using the correct version of Xcode to rebuild their apps.”
Let's hope this doesn't get any worse and that the problem stays here. If there is news, we will tell you about it.
