Leitnez Torres , one of our most fervent followers, has reported a problem that causes heriOS 8on a daily basis her. From his BLOG TIFLOS, specialized in helping blind people or people with low vision in the use of APPLE devices, tells us how iOS 8 is not very accessible to people with this type of disability. We recommend that you read it because it is priceless.
FOR BLIND PEOPLE iOS 8 IS LITTLE ACCESSIBLE:
People, when my vision problems made it impossible for me to handle a cell phone by myself, I began the search for some technological support that would make possible what I considered impossible. It occurred to me to start in Google by typing the phrase blind with cell phones. The highlight of those searches was Code Factory's Mobile Speak. I was about to make a mess and buy an Alkatel that was compatible with Android. I don't know which version. at that time I did not know what versions of mobile operating systems were.
While I was planning the way to get money for Alkatel, I kept searching and searching. Thank God, episode 31 of the Tiflo Audio podcast by the great Manolo Álvarez crossed my path. It demonstrated all the accessibility possibilities of iOS 5 on an iPhone 4s. Before the end of the episode, I had already made the decision to get that phone even if I had to sell my husband to a European tourist.
I spent a lot of work because many tried to deceive me trying to sell me a 4 terminal by passing it off as a 4s, but I discovered it by going to Settings, General and looking for Siri, if it wasn't there it was 4.Others brought me a terminal with defects, hoping that I would not notice. Nothing I ended up buying a 3gs for a nephew because I already knew what he was bringing VoiceOver
The 3gs already came with iOS 6 and it was a huge qualitative leap for me because I no longer had to call anyone to tell me who had just called me, to enter contact details or to type a note I began to feel a sense of equality in technology that I hadn't even imagined. He was practically on the same footing as a user without disabilities in terms of cell phone use.
I started to discover the world of social networks, podcasts, reading electronic books, browsing the internet from my mobile, etc. But I wanted to have more. I wanted to come face to face with Siri, lazy at last, I thought I would enslave her to do things for me. So I ignored logic or common sense and went straight to the Teachers' Cooperative to get a loan to get my long-awaited 4s.
I got it on Ebay helped by my sister who is an expert buyer. We made sure of the seller's qualification and that the terminal was factory unlocked or Unlocked Factory, I think it is written like that.
When it arrived, I already knew how to start it by myself and so I did. the experience was even better. That was the best for me. The attachment became a vice and then a dependency. So much so that I had problems with my husband. It was very difficult for me to explain to him that, although he only saw a woman with a cell phone in her hand, the actions were different. In fact, the phone was my library, my web browser, my radio, my music player, my newscast, actually that's what I use Twitter for, to receive information about what interests me. In short, my body became made up of a head, trunk, limbs, and iPhone.
When iOS 7 came out, I had a few problems, but it wasn't a big deal and the patches that fixed it came out quickly. The benefits that it brought silenced possible criticism of the bugs in me and when they were corrected, I forgot they existed. I even remember that some issues with VoiceOver users were mentioned in the description of one of the updates.
The arrival of iOS 8 has been a traumatic event for me. While it's true that no one put a gun to my head to get me to update, it's also true that I have a blog where I try to help newbies and I thought if I didn't I wouldn't be able to answer their questions in a pinch. Again, no one named me a rookie redeemer, I do it because I want to.
The fact is that I updated and put both feet in one shoe to say it in a decent way but countless unholy synonyms that define the frustration I feel cross through my head.
Among those who updated, various positions have come out, from those who want to hide the sun with one finger saying that "they are minor bugs and that they will be corrected soon", to those who propose to sell their manzanito to go to the coast of the little green robotIt was green the last time I saw it.
In my particular case, after the update I have gone through the seven stages of mourning:
While my grief was going on, these questions arose:
Although I wouldn't trade the apple for anything, I can't stay silent in front of some who say that failures are a little thing. I can't make two phone calls in a row because when we press a key a terribly annoying sound is emitted and it doesn't stop until the phone application is closed or turning off the phone, I can't copy links correctly from Safari, when I want to reply to an email the keyboard freezes hidden by itself, every so often Voice goes off and I accidentally activate something and then I don't know where I am, and they tell me it's nothing. I would like to have them in front of me to teach them what a hot comb in a bad bun is.
Already Apple released the first beta of iOS 8.1. I hope that the reports are taken into account but we must also move and protest.Read the iOS 8 user manual and you will see that we have been fooled because there are many things that we are supposed to be able to do with VoiceOver that are not being possible due to bugs.
I'm leaving third-party apps out of the topic because they are very much the owners of designing their apps however they want. We can perfectly return an application that, after purchasing it, is inaccessible to us, or contact a particular developer to make the observation that your application is accessible or not.
Finally, I plan to contact everyone I know who is not in the field of disability to publish a review on the subject because as long as the complaint stays between us and Apple's accessibility department, they will easily find us Christ at his second coming. By the way, I pray to God that I'm wrong and find the surprise that everything has been fixed in iOS 8.1
From APPerlas we want to echo this news and we hope that with the new versions of iOS 8, they can solve the problems that are currently being caused to blind people, in the normal use they made of their iPhone, iPad and iPod TOUCH.
We ask you to do us the favor of sharing this news with as many people as possible, so that we can make it known to more people and see if APPLE can remedy this great barrier that is iOS 8 for many blind people.
Many thanks to Leitnez for trusting us and for passing on this complaint to which we give our full support and hope it will be resolved shortly.
Greetings and thanks for your time.
