Pablo Ortega

Hablamos with Pablo, collaborator of the blog Actualidad iPhone and head of content at Actualidad Gadget. In this interview, he shows us all his apps, his impressions of Apple products and, above all, how the apple world is lived in the United States.

We leave you with the interview conducted

-Tell us about yourself:

I'm Pablo Ortega, a journalist specializing in technology. He has been working in the sector for six years, two in Spain and another four working as a correspondent in the United States.

Currently I cover news for Actualidad iPhone and I am responsible for content at Actualidad Gadget. I also have a presence in media such as Vandal, Traveler and I have been interviewed on NBC Los Angeles, but also on RNE on several occasions.

– Why did you emigrate to the US?:

I got a scholarship from my university that allowed me to study my last year abroad. I went to San Diego and studied at San Diego State University. When I graduated I decided to stay in Los Angeles, which is two hours from San Diego and presented more professional opportunities.

-Is Apple deeply rooted in American society?:

The United States has always been one of Apple's main markets and most people I know have an iPhone or at least one Apple device in their homes.

But Apple must take care of the advertising message it sends to North American society, as there is increasing disenchantment with the brand among consumers, who end up switching to Android. It is time for the Californian company to innovate and revolutionize again, just as it did in 2007.

-What are the differences between an Apple consumer in the US and a Spanish Apple consumer? Are we more demanding?:

The main difference is that Apple takes more care of its main markets and, unfortunately, Spain does not currently have a large market share in iOS. Android dominates in Europe and Apple has to make a great effort to reach consumers in the old continent. In the United States I appreciate more advantages for consumers than in other countries.

-Which instant messaging app is the most used in the US? And the fashion game?

Few instant messaging apps are used in the US. In fact, only a small number of people are aware of the existence of WhatsApp here, since sending messages has been free for years in the country. However, now Facebook Messenger is becoming very fashionable.

Gaming-wise, I stuck to the "Flappy Bird" phenomenon and so far I haven't heard of anything like that happening in the last few weeks. I don't have much time to play games on my iPhone, unfortunately.

– Are Americans more into Twitter or Facebook?:

Facebook used to dominate until now, but Twitter is gaining more and more followers. Mark Zuckerberg himself knows that he has to innovate so that his social network does not disappear and in the past he has recognized that daily user activity has decreased considerably.

-Are you jailbroken or not?:

I never really have been. I'm very impatient: when Apple releases a new software update, I want to try it immediately, even if it's a beta version. For this reason, I have rarely jailbroken my devices.

-Of all the apps you've tried, which one has caught your attention or surprised you the most? And the one with the best interface?:

I think that the one I liked the most, because of the service it offers, is Uber, which has just landed in Spain with great controversy, but I really think that the concept and use are great. The same thing happens with its interface.

-5 non-native apps, essential on any iOS device:

For my personal daily use, definitely Twitter, Facebook, Viber, Instagram and Dropbox.

-If you had to create an app, what would it be like?:

I've been working on some ideas for years, but for now they're being kept secret until they see the light.

-What advice would you give to a new iOS user?:

Enter the world of your device with enthusiasm, since you will not have to worry about a thing. On one of the most intuitive operating systems of all time. They will enjoy it.

Without a doubt, we can realize that the United States and Apple go hand in hand. Here in Spain, we still have to improve a lot in that aspect.

After conducting the interview, we have to say that we are looking forward to seeing these ideas about a future app.

We always highlight iPhones that have all the apps well organized, since it's a pleasure to work with them. Pablo's is one of the cases, everything is very well organized and visually, it's nice.

From APPerlas we want to thank him very much for the time he has given us to carry out the interview. We know that he is involved, and yet he has granted us this magnificent interview. You can follow Pablo on twitter as @Paul_Lenk.

Once again, thank you very much.
