What is abortion? »Its definition and meaning

Anonim

Abort is the interruption of an action or a process before it is completed. Also commonly regarded as the termination of a pregnancy. The term abortion comes from the Latin ab (privative), and from ortus (birth), it means "to deprive the birth" or "not to be born".

Abortion occurs when there is premature expulsion, either spontaneously or deliberately, of the embryo or fetus from the uterine cavity, before it has developed sufficiently to survive in the outside world (usually before the twelfth week from conception).

According to the characteristics, abortion is classified as spontaneous or induced. The spontaneous abortion, occurs naturally, and may be complete (when the total removal, eject both the placenta and the sack containing the fetus occurs); or incomplete (when the expulsion is partial, the placenta and part of the membranes remain in the uterus).

The induced abortion, as its name suggests is triggered or design and may be therapeutic (practiced where the life of the woman or is suspected fetal malformation) or criminal (practiced without sound reasons clinically and is punished by laws).

It is important that the doctor remove everything that is left in the woman's uterus; otherwise it will cause a serious infection, which can lead to death.

In ancient times, performing abortions was a widespread method of birth control. It was later restricted or banned by most religions, but it was not considered an illegal action until the 19th century. Today, practically all laws contemplate and penalize it in one way or another. Some consider them a crime against people, others against life, against morality, etc.

The causes of a miscarriage can be: an abnormal fetus (most of the cases), abnormalities in the chromosome load, drug abuse (including excessive consumption of alcohol, tobacco and caffeinated beverages), a hormonal imbalance, a poor diet, a strong emotional tension and more often, a fall or an injury.

When a woman suffers an abortion, her health suffers and her condition will depend on the causes and characteristics that have produced it. The repercussion of this fact, transcends their physical health since many times their mental health is affected so deeply that their recovery will only be possible after having reached their emotional balance again.
