What is accentuation? »Its definition and meaning

Anonim

The accentuation is part of the spelling and is what tells us where we should correctly place the graphic accents to the words. This term comes from the Latin "Accentualio" . Accentuation is very important because it will allow us to write the words correctly, and in this way, by communicating in writing, our receiver will understand the message better.

For example, if you write: "The liquid was spilled on the sofa" , it is understood that a substance such as water or a soft drink has been spilled. But if you write “Mr. Pérez liquidated his accounts in this bank” in this case the word liquidated no longer refers to a substance, but rather means that this Mr. closed his accounts. The word liquid will have two definitions simply by placing the accent or accent.

An accent is understood as an oblique line (´) that is placed on the vowel where there is a greater voice load. In our language, words are usually separated into syllables, syllables are made up of vowels and consonants, they can be two vowels and one consonant or one vowel and two consonants, etc. All words must be accentuated in some syllable, since when pronouncing a word we load the voice in some of these syllables, particularly in a vowel of the syllable, this syllable we call the stressed syllable.

At present there are many failures when writing words correctly, the use of new technologies has allowed the way to write correctly to be neglected, it is very important to teach children the correct way to write, through word dictations, literacy workshops, instill the habit of reading, and use the dictionary.
