ALBA is the acronym for the term "Bolivarian Alternative for Latin America and the Caribbean"; alluding to the proposal about an integration oriented to the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean that focuses on the fight against social exclusion and poverty. This phenomenon is carried out in a project of collaboration and complementation of a political, economic and social nature among those Latin American countries, which should be noted that in its beginnings it was promoted by the Cuban territory and Venezuela as compensation for the Free Trade Area of the Americas also known as FTAA promoted by the United States of America.
It can be said that ALBA is an international structuring or organization designed for the countries that are in Latin America and the Caribbean that emphasizes and seeks to combat poverty and social separation through leftist ideologies. The main vision of this organization is the integration of Latin American regions, concretized in the signing of precise cooperation agreements.
ALBA was specifically established on December 14, 2004 in Havana, Cuba, thanks to the agreement between Cuba and Venezuela with the specific participation of the heads of states of both countries, the president of the Venezuelan territory Hugo Chávez Frías and that of Cuba. Fidel Castro. Years later, the Bolivian country was annexed to the organization for April 29, 2006; In 2007, Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega signed an agreement in 2007 so that in the future Nicaragua could join or be part of ALBA. Then in 2008 it was Honduras, for Ecuador to join in 2009.
Currently ALBA is made up of 8 countries, which are Venezuela, Bolivia, Cuba, Antigua and Barbuda, S. Vicente and the Grenadines, Ecuador, Dominica, Nicaragua; 2 special guests, Suriname and Saint Lucia; and 3 observers, which are Haiti, Iran and Syria.
