Almanac is a term that comes from the Arabic "al-manakh" which means annual cycle; the first almanacs were calendars that allowed to document dates of religious holidays starting from astrology, these were like a class of zodiacs that determined the seasons of the year. It is a record or inscription printed annually that is composed of the three hundred and sixty-five days of the year, divided into months that has additional information on the phases of the moon, religious and civil celebrations, news, phrases, sayings, quotes, etc.
An almanac is also understood to be an annual edition or brochure that contains data, news or writings on different aspects, such as a political or theater almanac. Another use of the word is given in Cuba to refer to the age of an individual.
Many times this type of description is called an almanac or calendar but it is not always the same, in some contexts it is, of course, but it depends on what we mean. The difference between one and the other is that an almanac is a publication already printed and that it can be expressed in different presentations, although this word has been used less and less. On the other hand, there is the calendar that is more popular, it can refer to several types of calendars such as Mayan, Gregorian, lunar among others.
To conclude and in a general way an almanac was where the most relevant information for agriculture on the climate and the seasons is registered; but at present in this publication they are from lunar dates, ephemeris, astronomical data, holidays to jokes, etc.
