The tonsils are portions of irregular tissues also known by the name of tonsils by some literatures, these are found near the oral cavity just towards the sides of the palatine uvula; These are made up of lymphatic tissue and are attached or attached to the pharyngeal wall by a capsule made of fibrous tissue.
The shape of the tonsils is oval and their size is not standardized since it is different from person to person, it was mentioned that they are irregular because on their surface you can see numerous indentations or unevenness which are called "crypts" where different accumulations chewing waste, either food or cell. The tonsils are commonly affected by bacterial microorganisms since they are the first pathogens to be found in the oral area, the infection in the tonsils is known as “tonsillitis”, according to the fact that they serve as deposits of waste in the oral area they are considered to the tonsils as lymphoid organs, that is, they provide defense to the human body.
The tonsils are the structures known as Waldeye r's ring and according to the fact that they are located just behind the oral cavity these are the protectors of the digestive and respiratory system from bacterial infections, of course those people who have suffered a removal of the tonsils (tonsillectomy) will have more risks of exposure and development of pathologies associated with bacterial pathogens.
In the portion of the tonsils, the lymphocytes gain rapid access to pathogens that want to enter the body either through the oral cavity or the nasal cavity, in this way a rapid and effective response is triggered against those antigens harmful to health, being a very useful defense method especially in the first months of birth since they are only reinforced by maternal antibodies, which only provide protection until the first 6 months of life. It is very common to develop tonsillitis during the first 3 years of life, this is because it is the age when children introduce any object to their mouth, all the germs found on the floor or any contaminated surface will confront the friendly ones generating the recurrent infection.
