Amnesty is a term that derives from the Greek “amnestia”, whose translation is “forgetfulness”, at present this concept is applied to describe a legal instrument that, as a law, is issued by the Legislative branch and that in addition to This has the effect of preventing criminal prosecution and even, on some occasions, civil actions that are directed against certain individuals or categories of people with respect to an illegal attitude.specific, which took place before the approval of said amnesty; or, failing that, the regressive cancellation of the legal responsibility that was determined previously. It is important to highlight that the terms amnesty and pardon are not the same thing, the main difference between the two being that the amnesty eliminates any civil or criminal responsibility regarding a particular fact, therefore the crime committed is forgiven and it is automatically the criminal record is erased, on the other hand with respect to the pardon, the individual is still the guilty, that is, the crime he committed in a timely manner is not eliminated, but he is only freed from having to comply with the sentence with which he was punished.
