Apathy is a very common disorder that people can suffer and that can be detected simply because it implies a total indifference to the events or the people around us, that is, any situation that occurs in our environment, or the people who compose it, it will not interest us. The stimuli external and internal stimuli are not any response in the state of apathy.
Bystander Apathy are situations in which another person may be suffering a difficult or dangerous situation, and yet the bystander in this situation maintains a prudent distance to avoid getting involved. The reasons why a person may act in this way may be different. One of the most frequent fears is the fear by which you may fear being harmed if you are involved in that situation.
Social psychology often analyzes the effect of this type of behavior, in addition to its possible causes in order to correct this type of attitudes that, if they occur frequently, can lead to an individualistic and dehumanized society.
In fact, the effect of the apathy of the viewer is more common in large cities where there is a deal more distant and impersonal between neighbors in small towns where there is a bond of trust.
Another cause that can produce a feeling of apathy in that person who behaves as a spectator of a situation in which, in reality, their help is demanded is that they fear taking the initiative to offer their support and that, however, this will be rejected… It may also happen that the person trusts that an external agent who is more qualified to satisfy that request for help, comes to offer their support.
On the other hand, apathy can be specific, that is, caused and directed specifically towards a person, environment or group, which is what causes it. Meanwhile, beyond these, the person will not be apathetic.
We must emphasize that these cases in which apathy appears in front of a fact or a person that arouses no interest, should be considered as a simple disinterest and will not need any special attention.
