The term postpone etymologically speaking has an origin that is not well known, according to several sources this voice comes from the entry "term" that derives from Latin roots, specifically from the word "placĭtum" which means "agreed", term has several meanings, from which one of them is related to the word to expose, which is "is the time or term indicated for something in particular." Now, when we talk about postponing, it is worth noting that it is a transitive verb that refers to emplazar, which means to give an individual some time to carry out something in particular.
In a general sense postponement can be defined as the suspension or delay in the execution or accomplishment of a certain thing. The dictionary of the real Spanish academy exposes as another of its meanings of postpone, the word “differ”, which comes from the Latin “differre” and is the postponement in the performance of act or fact, but it is also common to say that someone differs in other words, of opinions or ideas.
On the other hand, in the American continent, in certain countries such as Uruguay, El Salvador and Argentina, the term is used to award a person with a failure note, that is, it is the action carried out in order to apply the suspension to an examinee. In addition, in Bolivian territory, they use postponement in order to mention that someone in specific has failed in an endeavor.
