It is a type of rock formed by sedimentation which is made up of small fragments made up of quartz, certain types of rocks and feldspar, they are the second most common type of rock to get on the surface of the earth, they have spaces between their granules called interstitials, such spaces can be observed without any material inside them in rocks of a young age, however if rocks of ancient origin are observed, such spaces are filled with a material formed of calcium carbonate.
These can be formed in numerous sedimentary-type environments, such is the case of areas adjacent to rivers, lakes, beach areas, boulevards, the seabed, deserts, among others, the sands which are responsible for the formation from the sandstone, they can be moved by the action of the wind or by the action of gravity, depositing the sand in deposits where the sandstone will later form.
Although they are found in large quantities in nature, they do not have the ability to give way to the formation of rocky structures, however in places where the wind is an important climatic factor, the sandstone can give way to the formation of taphonis (rounded cavities), rocky mushrooms, and even honeycombs.
In the construction industry it is a material that is used in various ways, one of which is as a material for paving floors, this is because it has great hardness and resistance, in addition to that, you can choose between different varieties of colors ranging from brown to red. Another very frequent use as a coating for all types of structures, due to the fact that it has characteristics of natural thermal insulation in addition to being resistant to the effects of the weather, indoors it is used as a raw material for the manufacture of fireplaces because it is highly fire resistant. As mentioned previously, sandstone has a wide variety of colors, which makes it an excellent element in what is decoration. Buildings such as the presidential house of the United States are a sample of the excellent material that it is, since it was made with a light-toned sandstone in the year 1800, thus demonstrating its resistance.
