Au pair is a French word that literally means "at par", basically it does not have a translation in another language, this word has its origin in the 19th century, which was used to refer to a group of young women who came from England to a homestay in France, for the purpose of teaching English to children. Years later it was a term used to refer to a person who is received by a family for the purpose of caring for children, and who in exchange for this receives a financial contribution, as well as some totally free lodging and food benefits.

Au pair has become a service exchange program, made up of legal regulations supported by several European countries (Germany, Austria, Belgium, Spain, Finland, France, Ireland, Switzerland), North American countries (Canada and the United States) and in Oceania (Australia).

To work as an au pair you must meet a series of requirements, which may vary in each country. Among the main requirements we have that the au pair must have a minimum age of 17 to 18 years, with a maximum age of 26 to 30 years, single and without children, in addition to have previous experience with children, a health certificate, a Certificate of good conduct endorsed by the authorities of the country that comes from and finally must not have a police record.

It is important to mention that a eu pair should be treated as a member of the family, with respect and should not be seen as a servant. Among the tasks that he must carry out are taking care of children, taking them to school, extracurricular activities, playing with them, among others.
