A balsam is a substance extracted from certain trees, this secretion is composed of aromatic acids, resin, esters and alcohols. Balms are generally used as purifiers and deodorizers. Its color is translucent at first, then it can vary from yellow-brown to brown-black, this is because when this substance comes into contact with the atmosphere, its hue becomes darker.

In ancient times, the balsam was used by the Egyptians to prepare corpses. From there comes the term embalming, which refers to any action that seeks to preserve the body of a deceased person.

It is important to highlight the existence of a famous and legendary balm called “ balsam of beasts ”, which according to legend was used to preserve the body of Jesus Christ, so it was very miraculous, capable of healing any wound and healing all kinds of ailments. Its name is due to a mythical knight of the Carolingian epic cycle, called Fierabrás son of a king and converted into a Christian, who (according to history) would have obtained this balm in Rome.

There is another balsam called "mecca balsam", this is obtained from a plant called commiphora gileadensis. This balm is characterized by having a yellowish color and its strong smell.

Black balsam is a substance that is extracted from a tree with the same name, this secretion is obtained by making a small cut to the trunk of the tree, this liquid has healing properties, so it is very effective for wounds or ulcers. In addition to this, it is used as an antispasmodic and antirheumatic.

On the other hand, the word balm is used to refer to any act that provides help or comfort, to withstand any pain or pain that is happening on a spiritual level. In the Christian religion, God represents a balm for those who suffer, it is like a kind of consolation of love that the Lord, brought down the Holy Spirit, offers to all his children by lifting them up and protecting them from all adversity. This is why the message of life that Jesus Christ preached represented a balm for all those hearts fallen in misfortune and sadness. Only Faith in Him symbolizes a balm of healing and salvation for the world.
