The term has gathered different meanings, which will depend on the context, accompanying word and etymological source. In the first place band, it was the term with which the Germans and Italians called those people who used a flag, as an identification. From there arises the use or meaning from the social point of view, that a gang is a group of people organized (not in a very formal way), supporters or who share an interest or thought.
Likewise, in the same social context, the term has been used to denote those antisocial and criminals who operate together or in a group. They represent what is known as a delinquent or criminal gang (synonym of gang) obedient (usually) to a leader or several leaders.
On the other hand, the wide ribbon that extends from the right shoulder to the waist, commonly used by public officials (such as mayors, governors and presidents) as a display of authority and symbolism and by women who participate in beauty pageants, with the which show the name of the town or country that they represent and in turn, those that are in the first places receive a band and of course the winner.
In music, there are also bands, with two different meanings. In the first place, the musical band composed of those who play percussion, string and wind instruments, accompanying the singer. Also, those musical groups of pop and rock are called bands.
In the military field, there are bands, also known as war bands, which are responsible for generating the sounds that accompany military parades. These bands are made up of wind and percussion instruments and in other commands and groups that ensure citizen security such as police and firefighters, this type of band is also used. Even in educational institutions of different levels, such bands have been created.
In film productions and television series, all those sounds and musical compositions that are reproduced at different times, throughout the production, make up what is known as the soundtrack.
In the sports field, the limited areas at each end of a sports field, which usually mark the end of the allowed place of play, is called a band.
Other uses of the term are: the shore of a bank or river, the range of values or magnitudes between two defined limits, the signal produced by the internet (broadband).
