Bipolarity or bipolar disorder as it is also known, is a mental condition, whose peculiarity is the sudden change from one state of mind to another. A bipolar person is capable of presenting episodes of euphoria (mania), and immediately falling into a state of sadness (depression).
The causes of this disease are still unclear, since for some specialists, it can be genetic, and for others it can be caused by a deformation in the structure of the brain.
This disease usually appears for the first time in the juvenile stage (between 10 and 24 years), being one of the most frequent disorders among men and women, so it is very important to identify what its symptoms are and thus be able to follow a treatment that help control it.
Among the most frequent symptoms are:
In cases of euphoria (mania): the mood is excessively cheerful. Self-esteem is extremely high. Mental hyperactivity occurs, that is, when the subject speaks very fast and cannot speak coherently. Physical hyperactivity (they do many activities that lead to exhaustion). Sexual disorders (increased sexual desire, which leads you to not take precautions to prevent the spread of diseases). They sleep little. There are patients who eat a lot, others eat little, drink excess alcohol, do not mind spending a lot of money on purchases, among others.
In cases of depression: insomnia; lack of energy, negative thoughts, such as thinking about suicide, lack of concentration, carelessness in their dress and personal hygiene, decreased sexual desire, among others.
Bipolarity can be classified into several types, these will depend on how quickly the episodes of euphoria alternate with those of sadness and vice versa, and on the intensity of your symptoms.
Type l bipolarity is one that manifests itself in people who have experienced a euphoric episode added to an episode of sadness.
Type II bipolarity is one in which the episodes of depression are greater, alternating with at least one episode of euphoria.
Bipolarity type III: is one in which the person presents premature dementia, with mental imbalance and compulsive behavior. Type III bipolarity generally manifests itself in patients over 50 years of age.
The cure for this disorder has not yet been found, but there are treatments that help control it. The most frequent treatment is based on drugs associated with psychotherapy, and can only be prescribed by a psychiatrist, he will be the one who is authorized to make changes in the doses to be taken.
