Binary Digit comes from the English language and means Binary Digit, Bit is the abbreviation or acronym of this English term. A Binary Digit is a numerical expression, which can only take one of the following two values: zero or one, therefore a Bit is also called a binary numbering system.

A Bit is the smallest digital unit of measurement (since it can only take two values) of information that can be used in the field of computing, either in a computer or any digital device. With the Bit you can represent the selection between two different alternatives that have the same degree of possibility of being chosen, for example black or white, on or off, yes or no, open or closed, true or false, male or female, etc.. And so each of these two options is assigned a value, one zero and the other one.

All the information encoded in a computer is measured in bits, it can be said that it is the way in which computers operate or "understand" (through binary code), all the information that is stored in them, such as information in the user's language it is converted to bits and also to know the size of the files is by means of the bits. The combination of several bits with each other, lead to the origin of other digital measurement units such as the Byte which is the set of 8 bits, the Kilobyte which is made up of 1024 bytes, then Megabyte which consists of 1024 Kb, the Gigabyte has 1024 Mb and finally the Terabyte with 1024 Gb, although the growing succession continues to know the Yotabytes and Xentabytes as the largest ones, among others.

In our everyday language we use it to refer to the storage capacity of computers, cell phones, Mp3 players, etc. Or the amount of space that can occupy any type of file such as images, music, video and text files on these digital devices, but now we know that they are systems that only have the combination of two numbers (zero or one).
