What is sketch? »Its definition and meaning

Anonim

In the artistic field, the series of lines or strokes that are made in order to establish the general appearance of a painting is known as a sketch. This concept is also applied to other artistic expressions, such as sculpture and literature, although, in the latter, it is preferably called a “draft”.

Similarly, the sketch can be the planning or action plan that leads to any project. Some synonyms for this term are: sketch, sketch and notes. It is common that, to refer to the style of some painters, the expression "sketchy style" or "aesthetics of the unfinished" is used, since, at first glance, free, easy or fast strokes are noticed.

Sketches can be distinguished from notes, at least in the realm of art. This is due to the fact that the former are the basic figures of the content of a work of art, while the latter encompass studies of forms, composition and, if warranted, movements of the object or being that will be painted. The sketches are made with the most basic drawing instruments: paper, pen or pencil and an eraser.

However, the artist can use any type of material, such as inks or watercolors. Added to this is the fact that, if it is a drawing made only using the color black, it would be called a monochrome sketch, while it is now called polychrome when different colors are used for its composition. It is not a completely defined drawing; Certain details, such as shadows or light, are also not taken into account, although this may vary from artist to artist.
