The term jester is used to refer to an individual whose main purpose was to amuse people, performing different jokes and shows, these types of characters can be compared to what clowns are today. Jesters were in great demand by royalty in order to make their evenings more fun. In general, these were individuals who presented physical characteristics considered as abnormalities, which at that time were a source of ridicule by society, an example of this were people who suffered from dwarfism. Among the most prominent acts of the jesters were juggling, representations of history in a burlesque context, acrobatics, etc.

It is very common to be associated with an era of great historical significance as it is the Middle Ages, but its origins go back much earlier and much remained time later. With regard to their clothing, they used to wear somewhat peculiar clothes, in order to stand out from others and thus be able to attract their attention, the variety of colors was very common, with the use of hats that had various Pointed and oversized, they had small bells attached to their clothes, oversized shoes and with make-up on their faces in order to highlight the features of the face to make them more strange to the eye.

Despite the fact that these individuals were in constant relationship with the high society people of the time, they did not possess any wealth or power, their way of life could be described as poor, since in many cases they lacked the basic conditions to be able to live, therefore the jesters could be considered as one more servant.

In the field of dramatic arts, the jester is a character that always appears in this context, being represented as a character with a crazy attitude. One of the most remembered representations of a jester is the one made by William Shakespeare described in his play " King Lear " where a jester exceeds his dramatic limits and his stories and occurrences discover the true reason for the events.
