In the context of computing, the source code is defined as the set of lines of texts, which are the guidelines that the computer must follow to carry out said program; so it is in the source code, where the operation of the computer is written.
The source code of a program is written in a specific programming language, however this type of language cannot be executed directly by the computer, but must be translated into another language that the computer can execute more easily. For this translation so-called compilers, assemblers, interpreters, among others, are used.
Accessing the source code of a program consists of having access to the algorithms developed by its creators. It is the only way to efficiently transform a program.
When it comes to releasing a source code, it means sharing that writing with any subject that requires it, that is, any individual can analyze, copy and modify it. The liberation of a code of a program entails certain insecurity, since its operation is exposed. Similarly, it is not usually released for commercial applications.
The source code, in turn, is also used to refer to the source code of other software components, such as the source code of a web page, which is written in HTML or Javascript language; and that is then executed by the web browser, so that the page can be seen when visiting it.
The branch of computer science in charge of creating source codes is software engineering.
