What is celibate? »Its definition and meaning

Anonim

The word celibate comes from the Latin "caelebs" or "caelibis" which means "single", and this agreement is manifested by various sources, it derives from Greek voices. Celibate is understood to be that individual or person who has not contracted marriage, that is to say that the term is applicable to the person who has not married, and that it is generally due to religious causes. As stated in the dictionary of the royal celibate Spanish academy, it is "Said of a person: That he has not taken a state of marriage.

Although by definition being celibate refers to not getting married or getting married, as time has passed, the word has acquired a meaning that refers to a lifestyle, so it is also related to the person who chooses to be single, depriving himself not only of marriage but also of any type of formal or compromising relationships. Therefore we have that celibacy is that state of the people adjudicated as celibate, that is, they do not get married or do not have a sexual partner.

The state of celibacy can be attributed to the religious phenomenon, since in the Catholic Church, on the one hand, in the case of priests and nuns, celibacy is an indispensable and mandatory condition to be ordained, on the other hand in Buddhism and other religions this act is also practiced. Although this act can also be philosophical and such is the case of Plato's option for the celibatal state; or finally of a social nature, appearing in those who choose celibacy as a personal option.
