What is gauge? »Its definition and meaning

Anonim

The Caliber is the internal diameter of the tube of a firearm through which a bullet exits. This diameter is one of the variables that defines the type of armament it is, because the diameter of the projectile that it emits is also established. It is common for pistols, shotguns and others to be known in the market, by the caliber they have, this defines a certain trade, because the higher the caliber, the more damage the bullet does. This type of variable is also used to determine the function that the weapons will have, for example, the policemen who constantly patrol the streets, possess small caliber pistols, useful for immobilizing a suspected criminal. The National Guard uses larger caliber weapons, ideal for attacking situations in which the threat to civilians does not stop with a short caliber of 9mm for example.

Caliber also an instrument that is known as Vernier or caliper, consists of a device that measures minute dimensions with great precision. The measurements that the gauge makes are:

Millimeter fractions (1/10, 1/20 and 1/50 of a millimeter). Inch Scales (1/16 and 1/128 of an inch). This high precision instrument must be free of dust and elements that interrupt the rail that is adjusted to take the measurement according to the desired fraction.

The basic components of a gauge are:

- Tweezers for the calibration of objects, such as to measure the diameter of a cylinder.

- Other opposing calipers that are used to measure external diameters, such as to measure the dimension of a hole.

- The respective scales that measure centimeters, millimeters and inches.

Two auxiliary scales called vernier that allow the measurement with greater precision. Finally we have the button that blocks the hooks to keep the desired size. At present there are verniers or calipers that have digital verniers with which it is measured with much more precision because the desired unit is defined and the measurement is carried out in an easier way.

Another name by which the Calibrator is known is Pie de Rey or caliper.
