The term cappuccino comes from the Italian language, specifically from the word “cappuccino”. It is a drink of Italian origin, which is made from espresso coffee and steamed milk to create the foam, and in some cases cocoa or cinnamon powder is also added. Regarding its composition, it contains around 125 ml of milk and 25 ml of espresso coffee. Regarding its characteristics, these are given mainly by espresso coffee and the texture and temperature of the milk, since it should not exceed 70 ° C. The barista usually uses a technique that, by means of pressure steam, introduces small air bubbles into the drink, which are what give it a creamy texture.
The name of this drink is due to the color of the habit of the Capuchin monks. According to the story, after the Battle of Vienna in 1683, the Viennese prepared coffee using the bags left behind by the Turks, but to soften its strong flavor, they added cream and honey, resulting in a substance of a color similar to that of the capuchin habit. From the first moment it was invented, it has always been known by its Italian name.
Regarding its preparation, the experts in this area assure that it should have a third of coffee, followed by a third of hot milk and finally a third of foam of the same milk. On some occasions, the cappuccino is served in small glass cups, which makes it easy to see the division of the components. When the coffee is served, the three ingredients remain separate while when the person is about to drink it, they integrate with each other. This differs from a common latte, due to the fact that the latter can have a higher proportion of coffee or milk, for its part the cappuccino also has as special additives powdered chocolate and cinnamon to flavor.and give a touch of outstanding aroma.
