The term quotient is commonly used in the field of mathematics, to define the result that is obtained, after applying an arithmetic operation known as division, that is, when dividing one figure by another, another quantity will result. This amount will be called the quotient. On the other hand, this word has another meaning and is related to the intellectual quotient.
Within the mathematical context, a quotient is the number that results after performing a division. Division is an arithmetic procedure that consists of finding how many times a number called a "divisor" is included in another number called a "dividend". There are so-called exact divisions, they are so called because the quotient obtained is a whole number.
For example, when dividing between 10 and 2, the result obtained is the number 5, since 10/5 = 2. In this procedure, 10 is the dividend, 5 is the divisor, and 2 is the quotient. If you want to check that the result is correct, just multiply the divisor with the quotient and you will get the dividend.
Now, when referring to the IQ or IQ as it is also known, we are talking about the number obtained after applying an intelligence test, this is done in order to measure the mental ability of an individual to then contrast with other individuals of the same age.
This test or questionnaire will evaluate the different skills and knowledge of the person under study, and then interpret the result, which will indicate whether the subject is within normal intelligence parameters, or if it is above or below them.
The intelligence quotient is abbreviated with the acronym CI. According to normal standards, a coefficient for an age group is 100. An individual who obtains an IQ higher than 100 is above the average; now, if the quotient is less than 100, for example 94 or 95, then the person has a lower than average intelligence. That individual whose IQ is higher than 98% of the population is considered a super intelligent person, since his mental capacity is above normal standards.
