In its heyday this amphitheater had the capacity to house 50 thousand people, being the senators together with the emperor who were concentrated in the stands that were located near the arena. The emperor Vespasian was commissioned to start its construction in 70 AD and it was completed 10 years later in 80 AD by the then emperor Titus.
