Conceptualization can be seen as an abstract and simplified representation of what each person knows about a topic or the world in general and that, for some reason, they want to represent. In reality, that representation that is made is what the person knows, and in it concepts are expressed from the point of view of verbal relationships with other concepts and their respective examples; with hierarchical relationships that imply the establishment of an object for one or more categories.
The essence of knowledge is the intentionality already explained by the philosopher Thomas Aquinas, that is, each mental concept refers to a real object or idea. The conceptualization exercise means making your own idea on a specific topic. This mental exercise shows the purpose that a person has to understand a specific reality.
From a learning point of view, there are study techniques that are especially suitable for conceptualizing that specific information is a means to assimilate data more effectively in a shorter period of time. For example, an outline is a means of conceptualizing a study topic that has a generalized idea of it. Through the scheme, it is also possible to go from the general to the particular and from the particular to the universal. In the same, brainstorming is also an interesting dynamic.
When we conceptualize reality, we move on the plane of abstraction, that is, we have a generalized idea of something. The conceptualization shows the mental representation of reality. Therefore, the true essence of concepts is their connection with what they represent.
As for the skill of conceptualizing, it is the ability of a person to perceive a problem, organization, theme as a whole, and in turn visualize the interrelation between its parts. This skill is one of the most difficult to develop because it is based on the way of thinking of each individual.
In the philosophical context, there is a philosophical subject that is especially important to analyze the process of conceptualization through the study of reasoning: logic. The conceptualization allows to lay the foundations of a theoretical framework. Each person carries out their conceptualization process through their own experience, therefore, this reasoning can also be abstract.
