The construct is beyond the concrete mental process known as ideation and the physical and social process that communication implies. That is why some sciences, such as mathematics, consider constructs as autonomous objects, although they do not have real existence.
For psychology, a construction is a bipolar descriptive category that allows each individual to organize experiences and data from reality. The construct can be understood as a hypothetical entity that is difficult to define within the framework of a scientific theory.
It should be noted that Our Mind uses abstract thinking to develop ideas. Thus, through abstraction we make concepts that do not correspond directly to the reality that we observe. In this way, we design geometric principles, language codes or scientific theories that explain some aspect of what surrounds us. All these elements are constructs, since they have been built by our mind from brain activity.
According to Kelly's theory of personal constructions, an individual needs a series of tools (for example, a map and a GPS) to perform this activity. On the other hand, the route to be taken must be planned in advance. In this sense, the person who practices trekking gives a meaning to what he finds on the path of mental construction that he has previously elaborated.
This example is applicable to life itself, because we act in one way or another depending on a set of mental constructions that are better or worse adapted to real circumstances.
In the social sphere, this concept arises from the need to generalize or classify individuals, grouping things or common aspects and qualities due to their similarities and differences. Also the construction is formed by groups of differences.
In the individual domain, concepts and constructions form complex relationships between words and meanings, if the concept is finished, the construct never is, and this because it is in intimate union with the experience and meaning of the subject, something that the concept that from a philosophical perspective, refers to the capacity and usefulness of the idea already created.
