Contouring is the name of the recent makeup technique that is becoming all the rage worldwide; The first people to use contouring were film, television and celebrity artists, an example of this is the well-known Kim Kardashian and other women who imposed it as a fashion when using it. Contouring is basically the combination of light and dark shadows to be used as a makeup base to be used professionally, this effect of light and shadow is achieved with the application of light correctors in the areas that you want to highlight and dark correctors in the areas that are want to define or perfect, this should be applied in a subtle way to give a natural complexion look but some people like a very pronounced contour.
The makeup tools necessary for the face contour are:
- Cream concealers; one light and one dark (beige and brown), the concealer to define the face needs to be two tones darker than the skin.
- Make-up base with a tone equal to that of the skin.
- Complements: illuminating powders, bronzers and ends.
- Special brushes for concealers, powders and foundation.
- Sponge, which is optional depending on the user's comfort.
The basic modality to use contouring is to apply and blend until the two tones overlap, giving that natural skin effect that a good makeup gives, this must be constantly repeated until the desired tone and fusion between both correctors is achieved. It is important to know that the location of the dark tones will be influenced by the type of face the client has, for example:
- Elliptical (oval) face: This type of face does not have many defects, but it must be applied to the forehead, chin and upper part of the nose; if there is a more pronounced side, it should be hidden with the dark corrector.
- Quadriform face: according to its shape, this face should be lengthened, to hide the square features the tips of the lower maxillary region (mandible) and the sides of the frontal region should be darkened; in turn, an illuminator must be applied to give that light effect to makeup. With the concealer the central area of the face is illuminated: the upper line of the nose and chin.
