What is school coexistence? »Its definition and meaning

Anonim

School coexistence is constituted by the set of human relationships that is established between all the actors that are part of an educational institution (students, teachers, principals, parents, among others) on a level of equality and respect for their rights and differences. In 2005 Donoso Cedeño, stressed that the entire educational community is responsible for the quality of school coexistence.

To achieve school coexistence, various elements are required, from those related to the infrastructure and services offered by the educational institution, to the will and commitment of all its members (students, parents, relatives, teachers, directors, administrative staff, among others). However, when analyzing the experience of the different educational institutions in their construction of a school coexistence, it is evident that the "internal norms of school coexistence" constitute a starting point to improve the coexistence relations between their members and establish guidelines and mechanisms for conflict resolution in a positive way.

Coexistence is a key action to share life with others. Acting to live implies learning from yourself and from others. Living together is, therefore, a permanent exercise of gratuity and generosity, it is a gesture "

Starting from the socio-constructivist framework of learning, living together in school is ontologically precise and decisive for learning, because not all school coexistence allows us to build and share knowledge. From this expectation, when facing deficient learning indicators, the need to address the capacity for coexistence in the school community is evident.

Coexistence is an implicit and still involuntary phenomenon, which was not actually contemplated in the original architecture of the educational system. From there arises the vocation of the Latin American School Coexistence Network “to put the issue on the table, to collaborate so that coexistence is understood, visible, investigated and illustrated, with the collection of useful tools and relevant strategies, to incorporate the act of coexist, with the act of training for the coexistence in the learning of all, to achieve that our educational centers communities where we learn to respect, be in solidarity and treat others well.

When we hear about the term school coexistence, we immediately associate it with what is Bullying and Violence in schools. But the definition of the Ministry of Education on School Coexistence is “the peaceful coexistence of the members of an educational community, which means the positive interrelation between them and allows the adequate fulfillment of educational objectives in a climate that favors the integral development of the students ".
