Corpus Christi is a Latin term that means "Body of Christ", also described as "Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ", which was previously called "Corpus Domini" whose equivalent in our language would be "Body of the Lord. ”. Corpus Christi is a celebration of the Catholic Church based on the commemoration of the Holy Eucharist, whose purpose is to announce and increase the faith of each one of the Catholics in the real presence of Jesus Christ in the Blessed Sacrament.
This type of celebration celebrates the establishment of the Eucharist on Holy Thursday in order to pay tribute to the Eucharist, which is a public and solemn cult of adoration, gratitude and love. in other words, it is carried out that Thursday after the Sunday of the Holy Trinity, a fact that occurs in the Latin Church, that is, Corpus Christi is commemorated 60 days after Easter Sunday. On the other hand, in the United States and in other countries around the world, this act is carried out on the Sunday after Holy Trinity Sunday, in order to adapt to the work calendar.
According to various sources, Corpus Christi originated in the Middle Ages, thanks to the idea promoted to celebrate a commemoration in honor of the body and blood of Christ present in the Eucharist, an idea that Juliana de Cornillon had, who is recognized by the Catholic Church as holy, in the year 1208. But it was in the year 1246 that Corpus Christi was celebrated for the first time in the Diocese of Liege in Belgium.
In different places around the world this celebration is considered a great holiday and is of great relevance, countries such as Bolivia, Croatia, Poland, Brazil, Dominican Republic, Trinidad and Tobago, Portugal, Peru and Venezuela, but also in certain parts of Spain, Austria, parts of Germany and Switzerland.
