Crestor is a drug whose active component is rosuvastatin. It belongs to the genus of statins. It is used to reduce "bad" cholesterol (LDL) and triglycerides located in the blood; in addition to helping to increase good cholesterol (LDL). Crestor comes in tablets of: 5, 10, 20 and 40mg.
It can be administered in adults and in children older than 8 years. This medicine works by slowing the production of cholesterol in the body and reducing the amount of it, which is accumulated in the walls of the arteries (arteriosclerosis).
Crestor is also given to lower the risk of having a heart attack, stroke, or any other disease of the coronary arteries. It is not recommended to use this medicine if you have liver, kidney or diabetes problems. If you are pregnant or lactating do not take it.

There is a rare side effect that can be caused by ingesting crestor and it is the appearance of a disease called rhabdomyolysis, this is a condition that causes muscle damage and damages the kidneys. However, it is estimated that this side effect can occur in 1 in 10,000 cases.
