Daklinza is considered the third of the new antivirals created to fight the hepatitis C virus in combination with other antivirals. It contains the active substance daclatasvir. It acts as an inhibitor of the NS5A protein of the hepatitis C virus; preventing it from multiplying.
According to studies carried out on 211 adults infected with genotypes 1, 2 or 3 of the hepatitis C virus and who were medicated with daklinza in combination with sofosbuvir, during a period of 12 to 24 weeks; the results obtained were satisfactory since the virus was completely eliminated from the blood of these patients.
Daklinza can only be sold with a prescription and treatment should be initiated and supervised by a professional experienced in treating patients with hepatitis C. This medication is available as 30 mg, 60 mg, and 90 mg tablets. The recommended dose is 60 mg once a day. For best effectiveness, daklinza should be given together with other hepatitis C medicines, such as sofosbuvir and ribavirin. The combination of medications and the duration of treatment depend on the genotype of the virus with which the patient is infected and any liver problems that he suffers.
Daklinza has proven its effectiveness, especially in patients with genotype 1 resistant to previous treatments, since in most of the patients studied, the virus had disappeared from the blood. In addition to this, daklinza was very well tolerated and the side effects were few.
Daklinza can be taken with or without food. It should not be used alone, that is, the dose of daklinza must be accompanied by doses of sofosbuvir or ribavirin; these doses will be indicated by the doctor.
It should not be administered to pregnant or lactating women. Taking this medicine will not prevent you from spreading hepatitis C to other people, so precautions are recommended, such as having safe sex, not sharing toothbrushes, etc.
The most common side effects that occur during treatment are: feeling tired or weak and headache. It is possible that some people have a little more serious reactions such as memory problems, severe dizziness, malaise. In these cases it is recommended to notify the specialist.
