Also associated with the term "apotheosis" or "divinization" , it is the glorification of a subject on a divine level. The term has meanings in theology, where it refers to a belief, and in art that concerns a style or genre. From the theological point of view, deification is understood as the fact that an idea, belief or individual has been elevated to a divine or transcendental state. In the artistic field, it refers to the exaltation or level of recognition that is given to a band, an individual or a trend.
However, in the Christian religion the use of the word "apotheosis" is avoided, and it is only limited to the term "deification" or "divinization" that comes from the Greek "theosis". In the Roman Catholic Church it is said that Jesus Christ was the God who took human form to share divinity with man, said approach to God, to the divine, had to be achieved through Communion, good acts, forgiveness and the salvation of souls. Thus, in Catholicism, human beings are called to deify themselves, to get as close as they can to God and be his image and likeness, to be by the grace of God what Jesus Christ is by divine nature.
On the other hand, in the Islamic religion deification is completely different from the approach that the Catholic religion has, since it is a serious offense for any human being to consider himself similar to God, this is known as the sin of "shirk" or idolatry or polytheism. According to the Qur'an, God does not share his powers with any intermediary, so idolizing individuals, images, amulets or having superstitions, that is, deifying everything that is not God himself, is a sin.
In other areas, such as art, although the term is not "deification" but rather "apotheosis", it is in principle the same. For example, when an artist, be it a group or a soloist, reaches a very high level in popularity and its fan base grows beyond the borders where it originated, and has a reach of up to different generations, it can be said that the figure has been deified, as their fans idolize them. In pop culture we have countless examples of idols, among which we can name The Beatles, Michael Jackson, Madonna, Elvis Presley, among many others.
