Disinformation is the absence of true information or true information. An uninformed person is a person who does not know the true and essential of something, who is wrong or who has a mental and vital confusion about the issues that he needs or is useful to know in order to act freely and in solidarity.
This misinformation can be produced by a myriad of interrelated causes. Most of them are not intentional, but they are due to a series of conceptual and structural deficiencies, if not to the own intellectual and moral weaknesses inherent in human beings, whether journalists or citizens.
But when this misinformation is intentionally sought, when there is a clear intention to deceive on the part of the promoters and producers of the information, and there is no critical resistance from the citizens, then we are facing what I want to name. Therefore, it is good to distinguish what is different, manipulation.
Historically it is a concept that is dangerously close to propaganda. And is that some of the definitions that have transcended have been conceived and contextualized in times of war, so that "disinformation" is often identified with "manipulation". This is perfectly understandable when we discover the misinformation born in the Soviet Union, when the manipulation of the information was intended to discredit the opponent and falsify reality.
Disinformation can have more or less serious consequences depending on the topic being discussed. For example, today there are many internet media that talk about a topic as serious as health. However, health experts recommend not consulting information in sources that are not reliable because, precisely, they are defined by misinformation in the explanation of the symptoms of a disease, in the effects and in the possible treatment.
One form of misinformation is to describe reality through generic concepts and wholes that do not describe the nuances of the facts. Currently, there are many media, however, the amount of media is not synonymous with being better informed.
Slow reading, talking with a mentor and studying is a good formula to increase training and consequently have better information by knowing how to select reliable sources from those that are not.
