The Diencephalon comprises an important region of the encephalon and consequently the brain that houses excretory glands of the main hormones that support life in humans. It is located throughout the center of the brain, the Diencephalon is located between the telencephalon and the midbrain, in a region known as the midbrain. This privileged position allows the neighboring glands of the hypothalamus to maintain a constant vigilance of the functions and secretion of the hormones they provide. Next, a summary of the components of the Diencephalon, with direct emphasis on the function they perform.
Pituitary, hypothalamus and pituitary stalk, including the adenohypophysis and neurohypophysis. This important hormonal system is responsible for the complex process of homeostasis, this cycle recovers all the protein content of food and synthesizes it into energy that supports the other functions of the body, the segregation of these hormones is also fed back to accommodate different functions of the organism also of important relevance, such as the expedition of sweat, the presence of hair on the body, among others.
Thalamus and Epithalamus are voluminous masses also located in the center, their importance lies in the fact that it is here that sensory stimuli are radiated and the quality of feelings is calibrated. These impulses are secreted by hormones such as endorphin, which is the love hormone. This quality of the brain allows the human being a plural sense of the actions he takes.
Metathalamus, includes functions of the senses, smell and sight, this body acts as an antenna, receptor of stimuli and pulsations of the nervous system for these senses. The complexity of this area of the Diencephalon is so important that it represents a specific field of study.
Last but not least, the third ventricle is located in this region, acting as a wired central. It is nothing more than a fiber optic region that connects all the brain ventricles, in addition to the pituitary glands, the pineal gland and everything related to connective tissues.
