An emblem can be defined as a kind of graphic representation or a portrait of great relevance, which is usually accompanied by an equally forceful phrase, which is responsible for giving meaning to what is represented in said image, usually emblems are used as a symbol of something or someone. The term derives from the Greek word “ἔμβλημα” which is initially made up of the prefix “en” which means “to put”, then there is the word “βάλλω” whose translation is to put, therefore it could be translated that a emblem means "that which is enclosed"
The origin of this is attributed to a jurist of Italian origin named Andrea Alciato, who created more than 90 Latin epigraphs, granting each of them a title, work that he would end up dedicating to Maximiliano Sforza, without knowing it his creation would end up reaching Steiner's hands, who was a printer of the time, who had the idea of adding a reference image to each epigraph, work that would be the responsibility of Breuil, finally the work was published in the year 1531 under the name Emblematum liber, achieving a resounding success.
The emblems are made up of 3 main elements, the first is undoubtedly the figure, which was usually engraved on an object, its importance was relevant since it had to be forceful when wanting to transmit through she is the moral criterionof the same, so that in that way it is kept in the mind of those who observe it. Second is the title, this can be a kind of opinion, which is usually written in Latin and whose main purpose is to serve as a guide to complement what you want to convey with the image. Finally it has an argument, who is in charge of relating what is meant to the figure and in turn what the title says, it was frequent that these texts were written in text form, while the language with which it was written it would depend on the language spoken by the recipient.
