What is enbrel? »Its definition and meaning

Anonim

It is a drug that is used to treat autoimmune diseases, such as rheumatoid, psoriatic, juvenile idiopathic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, among others. Enbrel works by binding to the element that causes tumor necrosis (stimulates inflammatory reactions) and inhibits the effect it may cause in the body. The active ingredient in it is etanercept.

The drug is generally administered subcutaneously twice a week in doses of 25g, the application of it orally is discarded, since the digestive system deactivates it, losing its action, currently there is a presentation of 50g per what makes its application possible only once a week.

Etanercept is usually applied in combination with other drugs, to relieve the symptoms of different diseases such as:

Chronic plaque psoriasis: a disease characterized by the formation of red spots in specific areas of the skin that are usually accompanied by scales.

Rheumatoid arthritis: a condition in which the body itself attacks the joints, causing pain and inflammation as a result, which over time can lead to the total loss of function of the affected area.

Ankylosing spondylitis: It is similar to rheumatoid arthritis, but in this case the body attacks the joints of the spine and nearby areas, causing pain and inflammation.

Special care must be taken when ingesting enbrel since it can decrease the body's ability to eradicate infections, so the body is more prone to contracting some fungal or bacterial infections, than if they are not treated by correct way can end in the death of the patient. Another aspect that should be taken into account before taking this drug is to be aware of whether or not you have a lung or liver infection, since if this is the case, the drug can increase the severity of the disease.

Not all organisms are the same and therefore not all people react in the same way to the administration of etanercept, some of them may have adverse effects to the drug such as infections in the place where the injection was placed, allergy to the drug, fever, chills, pain when urinating, etc., for all this it is important to go to a specialized doctor so that he is in charge of administering the enbrel.
