The gum is a mucosa composed of thick tissue that joins the squamous epithelium that lines the teeth. The gum is the base that supports the teeth in the jawbones, it also acts as a protector against the roots of bacteria. The gum is colored pink, when the gum shows a reddish hue and this means that you have swollen mouth disease such as gingivitis or inflammation, it is recommended to have a good oral hygiene.

The gums are composed of two fractions, the marginal and the inserted one, these form a kind of crown where the teeth are inserted, it is also called interdental papilla. The interproximal supports the teeth but also prevents the accumulation of food and prevents irritation and the appearance of periodontal disease.

The gums are very delicate to contact, any bumps or scratches can cause bleeding and can even cause ulcers.

Mouth ulcers are bacteria that coalesce causing lesions, these microbes stick to the tongue and palate. This series of mouth wounds must be treated by a doctor to prevent the ulcers from continuing to reproduce.

Gum disease is caused by poor oral hygiene, which causes inflammation of the gums, also called gingivitis, periodontitis, and advanced periodontitis.

Gingivitis: it is the beginning of inflammation and occurs due to oral plaque, its treatment is simple since the bone and tissue have not been affected.

Periodontitis: it is the second stage of gingivitis, and for this phase the bone and tissues have been irreversibly damaged.

Advanced Periodontitis: it is a gum disease that causes great loss of bone and the tissues that support the teeth. Among the most common symptoms of this periodontal disease are:

  • Chronic bad breath
  • Inflammation.
  • Bleeding.
  • Gum loss due to bone loss.
  • Deepening of the gingival sulcus.
  • Teeth Movement.

The best way to prevent these diseases is by maintaining good oral hygiene, brushing your teeth after every meal, and avoiding acidic foods.
