Ancient Greece, in its time, was the greatest powers in the world. In its womb were born the greatest thinkers that humanity has ever seen, who decidedly dedicated themselves to cultivating science and knowledge. In the same way, it represents one of the great authorities as far as art is concerned, due to the sculptures and writings that they left. Their religion is, however, one of the most prevalent aspects to this day, due to its wealth and the respect with which it is practiced by its parishioners; this, together with mythology, are the most representative symbols of life in Aristotle's Greece.
One of the many deities that Hesiod spoke of in his writings is Eris, the Goddess of discord. It should be noted that, by discord, we understand the circumstances in which a certain situation develops, in which the participants cannot reach an agreement. This figure stands out for his ability to generate chaos, confrontations and disputes, both among mortals and among the powerful Gods; This is why, for the most part, he is defined as a character who has dark, cruel purposes. Daughter of Zeus and Hera and the sister of Ares, from whom the most detestable representations of mythology were born: Hunger, Pain, Oath, Oblivion and Sorrow.
Hesiod describes two different Discordia: the conflictive, wicked Discord, daughter of the Night - also called Nix-, whose sole purpose was to generate disputes on Olympus and on Earth; then we find the Discord engendered by Zeus, which existed to motivate work, that is, it motivates competition between, for example, merchants. The first is disparagingly described by various authors, including Homer, while the second is seen as one of the beneficial spirits of Greek mythology.
One of the most famous stories, in which Discord plays an active role, is that of the golden apple. In this it is related how, after not being invited to the wedding of Tetis and Poleo, she throws a golden apple in the middle of the celebration, which should be given to the most beautiful Goddess; those present pounced on the small fruit, but froze when Hera, Athena and Aphrodite made an appearance, leaving the site. The goddesses argued about the matter violently, so Zeus intervened and led them to Ida, where was Paris, prince of Troy, who would have the arduous taskto decide who was the most beautiful. Each one offered him a reward for choosing her and, for the prince, the most attractive was that of Aphrodite, who promised him the most beautiful woman in the world. This is why Paris kidnaps Helen and the famous Trojan War begins.
