This atrophy is a problem that has more repercussions from an aesthetic point of view than a health one for those who are affected, being much more common in women than in men, especially during adolescence. Undoubtedly, the skin is a tissue that has a certain elasticity, which allows it to adapt to changes in body volume, however, if these changes are too sudden or disproportionate, it is very possible that it is on the way to the appearance of stretch marks due to the breakage of its fibers.

Stretch marks can be classified into two types:

  • In the first place, there are the stretch marks, which can be observed in pregnant women, in obese people who have lost weight quickly and in diseases such as nephritic syndrome and ascites.
  • In second place are the purple striae, so called because they have a violet or dark red color that are a characteristic sign of Cushing's Syndrome due to the excessive production of cortisol.

According to experts, the main reason that leads to the formation of stretch marks is weight loss and gain, in which cases they usually appear in the armpits, breasts, arms, abdomen, hips and legs.
