What is phoenix? »Its definition and meaning

Anonim

It is one of the best known mythological beings, along with mermaids, werewolves and vampires, which was characterized by having very bright red feathers. The word goes back to a Greek origin, being originally "φοῖνιξ". It is considered as the Greek equivalent to other birds, from different cultures, with similar characteristics; An example of this is the Bennu, an Egyptian bird that represented everything related to life and death, something very similar to what the phoenix means for Western culture, in addition to this there is also the Fenghuang, but this represents the bond between yin and yang. His body was similar to that of an eagle, its beak and claws were very strong, so it was also considered a symbol of strength and will, something reinforced by its fiery red plumage.

However, the phoenix is best known for being an animal that had a life of 500 years and after this period of time, it was consumed in flames, to later rise again from its own ashes. This fact has created a series of doctrines and beliefs, which use the analysis of what the resurrection of the phoenix really represents, that is, interpreting it as if it were not a literal action. In addition to this powerful ability, it was said that this bird had powers that no other being on the face of the earth; among these are: the healing gifts of his tears, his great strength, the resistance he could have and his power over fire.
